~~John "Jack" Tersteeg, age 86 of Roseland, MN, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Rice Hospital in Willmar. Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, October 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at St, Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. Dennis Labat as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Olivia VFW and American Legion. Visitation is Sunday, October 1st at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia from 3:45 TO 6:00 p.m. and starting with a prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Monday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
John Thomas Tersteeg was born November 24, 1930 at Olivia, MN, to John E. and Elizabeth (Mysicka) Tersteeg. He grew up on the farm south of Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School. Jack served his country for two years in the U.S. Army. He then returned to farming at Olivia. Jack married Elizabeth Scheibel on July 10, 1954 and they were blessed with seven children. Besides farming he operated a Behlen dealership, Steel Products, Inc., selling grain handling systems and several times was the number one dealer in the country. In addition Jack owned and operated Energy World, an innovative alternative energy company dealing in ethanol and solar energy. He was also the inventor of the Flex-Bar twelve row corn planter. Jack was extremely community minded and belonged to the Lions, Knights of Columbus, the NFO, and had been an organizer of the Corn Capital Days parade being named its Grand Marshall one year. He also enjoyed traveling with Liz, hosting foreign exchange students, making wine, canning, and making pies. First and foremost Jack was a lifelong, dedicated, faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia and he said several rosaries every day.
Jack is survived by his children: Terri (and Jim) Tersteeg-Peterson, Kathi (and Joe) Weinzetl, Barb Frank, Patty Tersteeg, Marilyn Birkland (and Clint Jordahl), Joe (and Mary) Tersteeg, and Kari (and Brian) Chase; his 12 grandchildren; his 14 great-grandchildren; and his three brothers: Bob (and Joyce) Tersteeg, Ron (and Betty) Tersteeg, and Doug Tersteeg. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elizabeth; his great-grandson Dominick Bruns; his sister Jane Kascht; and an infant brother Allen Tersteeg.
