Sarah was born January 3, 1928 in Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi County to Edwin and Sarah Thelma (Harding) Hauer. She attended rural schools and one year of high school in Atwater. As a young woman she worked as a “mother’s helper” for many area families, also worked at the butcher shop and café in Bird Island. Sarah married Earl R Garberich on March 31, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. They lived on the Garberich home farm in Fahlun Township, where she cared for her mother-in-law, Ella, and raised their five children. She worked at Willmar Poultry Company from 1968-1978, then cleaned homes with Captain Clean part-time. They moved off the farm and into Willmar in December 1987. They moved to Bethesda Grande in October of 2012. She belonged to the Ladies’ Circle at Svea Church and Birthday Club in Fahlun Township. She enjoyed Saturday night dancing, listening to music, camping, watching stock car races, traveling within the states and a trip to England to visit extended family, family gatherings, playing cards, puzzles, word search, baking and cooking (you didn’t leave her house hungry!!) At Bethesda, she enjoyed many visitors, however if she felt your visit was too short she noted it in her guestbook.
Sarah is survived by her five children: Glenn (Jackie) Garberich, Greg (Shelley) Garberich, Mary Ann (Ed) Weiland, David (Tammy) Garberich and Marcia (Brian) Solbrack; her 10 grandchildren; her 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings Betty Jane Garberich and Richard (Sue) Hauer; and many nieces and nephews. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Earl in 2015, and her siblings Roger (Phyllis) Hauer; LeRoy (Dorene) Hauer; Oliver (Phyllis) Hauer and brother-in-law Donald Garberich.
Blessed Be Her Memory
