Janet Gail Samuelson, age 81, of Willmar, died Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. The Rev. Dale Svendsen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church in Sacred Heart. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Janet Gail Samuelson was born on January 22, 1936, on the family farm near Granite Falls, Minnesota to Howard and Bernice (Jordet) Halvorson. She grew up on the farm near Granite Falls and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1954. Following high school Janet worked at the doctor’s office in Granite Falls. She was united in marriage to James Milo Samuelson on June 15, 1957, at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. They made their home in Sacred Heart where Janet and James raised their family. When her youngest, Jennifer started school, Janet began working as a para professional at the Sacred Heart school. She retired from the school in 1995, and she and James moved to their home on Diamond Lake. They lived there until they moved to Willmar in 2000. Janet loved animals-particularly her dogs, doing crafts, scrapbooks, reading, and loved spending time at the lake and the pool. She was a Sunday school teacher and a Brownie Leader when her kids where young. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband James of Willmar, her beloved dog Eddie, her daughters and sons: Laurie (and Darrell) Bruns of Renville, Scott (and Karen) of Willmar, Jamie (and Kim) of Sacred Heart, Rick (and Mary) of Sacred Heart, and Jennifer (and Kevin Bruns) Samuelson of Renville; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; her sister Sandra Samuelson of Willmar; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
