Barb Brandt, age 65 of Olivia, died Monday evening, December 18, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services are Wednesday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia with Rev. Yong Ok Son officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continuing at the church Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Barbara Ellen Brandt was born September 18, 1952 at Willmar, MN, to Gordon and Mary Ann (Summerlet) Hillstrom. She grew up and attended elementary school in Lake Lillian and graduated from Bird Island Lake Lillian High School. Barb married Brad Brandt on May 31, 1975 and they were the parents of two children. She has made Olivia her home ever since. Barb was very versatile and extremely hard working. She was employed at a variety of occupations and always managed to balance her career and her household. She sold crafts and was part owner of Expressions. Barb worked as an Accountant for Brandt Electric for many years and most recently she worked for Rural Computers and IMT. Barb absolutely loved cooking and hosting gatherings especially at Christmas time. Barb also enjoyed being at the race track, watching Scott race, collecting race memorabilia, as well as watching Nascar and the Food Network. Barb was a very generous person, was a great friend, and had a knack for knowing when someone needed her. She absolutely adored and did anything for her granddaughter Heavyn.
Barb is survived by her husband Brad; her daughter Sara of Olivia; her son Scott of Andover; her granddaughter Heavyn of Olivia; her parents Gordon and Mary Ann Hillstrom of Willmar; her siblings: Diane (and Curt) Dyrstad of Alexandria, Douglas (and Randi) Hillstrom of Hastings, and David Hillstrom of Ely; her two sisters-in-law Linda (and Jim) Wagemaker of Olivia and Jan (and Duane) Sanow of Montevideo; and several nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her nephew Jeremiah Dyrstad; her father- in- law and mother-in-law Quentin and Ginny Brandt; her aunt Kathy Nelson; and her grandparents.
