Duane Pagenkopf, age 80, of Stewart, MN, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Memorial services are Saturday, December 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart with Pastor Mahlon Bekedam officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is Saturday at the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, of Olivia.
Duane Alvin Pagenkopf was born April 2, 1937 at rural Stewart, MN, to Alvin and Selma (Roepke) Pagenkopf. He grew up on the family farm near Stewart and graduated from Stewart High School in 1954. Duane married Janet Schwarzrock on December 19, 1959 at Penn Church at rural Brownton. They made their home in the Stewart area and were blessed with three children. Duane farmed for many years on the farm he has lived on his entire life. Duane and Janet also owned and operated D & J Sanitation for 23 years. He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart where he sang in the men’s choir during his earlier years and also helped with the treasurer duties for many years. Duane enjoyed traveling, trips to Las Vegas, watching NASCAR on TV, and attending races at the County Fair and State Fair. Duane especially loved living on the farm, being outdoors whether he was hunting, fishing, feeding and watching the birds, and looked forward to family deer hunting outings.
Duane is survived by his three children and their spouses: Paula (and Dr. Michael) Gutknecht of Naples, FL, Julie (and Curt) Glaeser of Stewart, and Corey (and Jackie) Pagenkopf of Buffalo Lake; his seven grandchildren: Chase Gutknecht, Olivia Gutknecht, Cole Gutknecht, Ashley (and Reggie) Vacek, Spencer (and Brittany) Glaeser, Tyler Pagenkopf and Austin Pagenkopf; his two great-grandchildren Owen and Aubrey Vacek; and his brother Earl (and Sharon) Pagenkopf of Stewart. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Janet in 2013; and his sister Grace.
