Doris Klemenhagen, age 94, of Bird Island died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Prairie View Assisted Living in Hector. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island with Pastor Mandy France officiating. Burial is in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN.
Doris Louine (Meyer) Klemenhagen was born May 3, 1923 on the family farm in Osceola Township, rural Bird Island, Minnesota to Ernest and Alice (Rudeen) Meyer. She was baptized July 8, 1923 and confirmed October 18, 1936. Doris attended #110 School District completing her education in 1938. She was united in marriage to Clifford Klemenhagen on December 2, 1943 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Parsonage in Bird Island. They farmed in Fahlun Township, Kandiyohi County, from 1944 to 1946 and owned the farm in Osceola Township, Renville County from 1946 to 1980, then retiring and moving into Bird Island. The farm remains in the family today. Clifford passed away in 2001. Cliff and Doris enjoyed dancing, traveling, and having coffee with friends upon retirement. Doris was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island, active in Ladies Aid Circle, and helped cut the ribbon for the new Renville County Fairground Church Stand as one of the oldest members in the church. Her other interests included memberships in Bird Island's Red Hat Divas and a special "DORIS" club and when she hosted the yearly meeting in Bird Island in 2000 she was interviewed by the British Broadcasting Corporation in London, England regarding the Club. Doris belonged to the Quilters Along the Yellowstone Trail and Our Savior’s Church Quilters. Her love of quilting was passed on to her three daughters. Doris loved to collect recipes and enjoyed sending and receiving emails from family and friends.
Doris is survived by three daughters: Cheryl (Don) Collins of Delano, Joan (Howard) Manthei of Hutchinson, and Cathy (Robert) Barker of Fridley; her five grandchildren: Kyle (Stacy) Collins, Bryan (Carrie) Manthei, Dr. Daryn (Amber) Collins, Lindsey (Kyle) Schantzen, and Taylor Barker; her ten great grandchildren: Keenan and Korbin Collins, Abbey, Nick and Bridgette Manthei, Ryler, Layton and Annalina Collins, Kaden and Kendall Schantzen; and her four nieces. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford; her brother Roger Meyer; her sister Elaine (Robert) Schmoll; her brother-in-law Orville Klemenhagen; her two nieces and two nephews.
