Obituary of Orval Butenhoff
Orval A. Butenhoff age 90 of Clara City, died peacefully in his sleep on June 15, 2017 in his home at Clara City Independent living center. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. The Rev. Dale Svendsen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the services all at the church in Sacred Heart. Arrangements with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Orval Arthur Butenhoff was born July 9, 1926 in Emmett Township Renville County, MN. He was the son of Arthur and Irene (Gummert) Butenhoff, and grew up on the family farm near Danube, MN. He was the eldest male in his family, thus he was expected to help with the farm. Once he completed the 8th grade, his focus was on helping with the family farm until he was drafted into the Army. He proudly served his country and once he fulfilled his commitment, he supported the American Legion and VFW. Orval had a full life. After serving in the Military, Orval continued to work the family farm for a number of years before moving on to working at the Wabasso Coop elevator. From there he settled in at the Sugar Beet factory in Renville for 13 years, where he retired in 1991. He married Lillian Rosaasen on April 13, 1985 in Sacred Heart, MN where they lived on the Rosaasen farm until 2013 when they moved to Clara City. Orval had a close and loving relationship with his siblings and his nieces and nephews, he also developed a deep, loving relationship with Lillian’s children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The couple loved to travel namely south in the winter to warmer climate. His love of working the land on the farm as a younger man continued long into later life with his garden, which he loved. In the fall of the year he would share his bounty with family and friends.
Orval is survived by his stepchildren: Bonnie (Guy) Eaton of Winona, MN, her daughters: Lori (Luke) Tjaden, Leah Welnitz, Alena (Ben) Boklep; Orvin (Linda) Rosaasen of Moorhead, MN their daughter Emily; and Orlynn (Chris) Rosaasen of Grand Forks ND and their children: Audrae (Jose) Rivera, Michael (Elaine) Brophy, Jody ( Egiro ) Okoro, Erin (Jay) Singerman, Samantha (Jesse) Watson, and Shawn (Haley) Rosaasen; his one brother Marlen (Marilyn) St. Joseph, MN and his sister Deniece (Damond) Lester of San Antonio, TX; his nieces and nephews: Barbara Gernentz, Linda Butenhoff, Maria (Dennis) Steele, John (Meadow) Butenhoff, Bonnie Jo (Craig) Harrier, Michael (Laurie) Abrahamson, Mark Abrahamson, Thomas (Paula) Abrahamson, Lisa Abrahamson, Timothy (Bobbi Jo) Abrahamson, and Laura Peterson. He is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lillian, his parents, stepson Ordean Rosaasen, and great-grandson Darwin Wellnitz, his sister Glorine Abrahamson, his brother-in-law Winton Abrahamson, and a nephew Gerald Butenhoff.
