~~Victoria Ites, age 64, of Olivia formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN after a prolonged illness. A gathering will be held at Fairview Place in Olivia at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017. Burial will be at a later date in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston, MN.
Vicky was born in Preston, MN, to George and Joy Victoria (Chilson) Adkins on August 17, 1952. She was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. Vicky attended Preston Public Schools until the 9th grade when she moved with her family to Alden, MN. She graduated from Alden High School in 1970 and then attended Mankato State University for one year. Vicky married William J. Ites on September 11, 1971 at Redeemer Lutheran Church Alden, MN. They made their home in Buffalo Center and other towns in Iowa until settling in West Des Moines, Iowa. Vicky moved to Olivia, MN in January 2017 to be near her sister. Vicky and Bill had one daughter, Jennifer Victoria (Ites) Putney and one grandson, Billy Putney. Vicky loved animals, especially horses and dogs. Her childhood was spent riding and training her horses and she had at least one dog throughout her life. Vicky’s talents included arts, academics, and athletics. She was an accomplished artist, played piano, French horn and had a flair for interior design. She excelled in school and in her work at Meredith Publishing Company, Des Moines, IA, where she headed the magazine distribution department. In her youth, you could find Vicky climbing trees, swimming, drawing and with her horses. Vicky never lost her love of Preston and for her “Chilson” relatives. She will be laid to rest in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston beside her grandparents.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Andrew and Erma Victoria (Petersson) Chilson and B.C. and Agnes (Christianson) Adkins; and uncles Rev. Gale Chilson and Richard Wildgrube. Vicky is survived by her daughter, Jenny (and Jon) Putney and grandson Billy Putney; parents George Adkins and Joy Adkins; brothers David (and Patrice) Adkins, John (and Jennifer) Adkins; sisters Betsy (and Joe) Hennen, Diana Adkins, Amy Adkins; aunts Garaine Wildgrube and Jane Chilson; cousins Jan Kelley, Rachel Smith, and Christopher Chilson; grandnieces and nephews and a special grandniece, Audrey Victoria.
