Obituary of Vivian Dannewitz Eiler
Vivian Dannewitz Eiler, age 95, of Olivia and formerly of Bird Island died peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the RC Hospital in Olivia. Funeral services are Wednesday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island. Pastor Joseph Carpenter from her Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation is Tuesday, July 25th from 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Burial is in the Bird Island City Cemetery and the Bird Island American Legion Auxiliary will be an Honor Guard. Memorials are preferred to Renville County Hospice.
Vivian Grace Martin-Dannewitz-Eiler was born December 23, 1921 to James David and Anna Marie (Sorensen) Martin on their farm in Olivia. She was baptized June 11, 1925 according to the Ritual of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Olivia. She attended school at District 101, Renville County up until the 8th grade when she needed to help on the family farm. She married Dale Dannewitz on March 17, 1944. They were blessed with three children: David John, William Earl and Robert Allen. She had a son, Larry Dale, prior to being united with Dale. Dale had a daughter, Donna Mae from his first marriage which unexpectedly ended with the passing of his wife. Dale passed away in March of 1991. On February 27, 1998, Vivian married Robert Eiler. They lived together in Bird Island until his passing in 2008. In 2012, she relocated to Olivia. She was a faithful member of the Bird Island United Methodist Church and loved singing in the church choir. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, word search games, dominos, jig saw puzzles, cooking, traveling, square dancing, and being with family and friends. She was also a Past Matron of Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Bird Island American Legion Auxiliary Post #430 and a Blue Star Mother. She worked with the Renville County Fair Board for a number of years. She also was a nurse’s aid when she lived in Waconia, and after coming back to Bird Island, she was a cook at the Bird Island Manor. She had been residing at Park View Village Assisted Living in Olivia up until the time of her death.
Vivian is survived by her children: stepdaughter Donna Reese of Hopkins; son Larry (and Arlene) Dannewitz of California, son William Dannewitz of Bird Island and son Robert Dannewitz of Arizona, stepsons: Jim (and Jan) Eiler of Bird Island, Steve Eiler of Bird Island, Dennis Eiler of Bird Island, Allen (and Karen) Eiler of Olivia; stepdaughters: Theresa (and Larry) Roehring of St Cloud and Patricia Eiler of Olivia; brothers-in-law Richard (and Norma) Eiler of Bird Island, Roger Lippert of Willmar, Mert Gustad of New Ulm, and Dean (and Mary Ann) Dannewitz of Florida; sister-In-Law Elaine (and Frank) Lindell of Cold Spring; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and step-nieces and step-nephews. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Dale Dannewitz and Robert Eiler; son David Dannewitz; grandson Jeffrey Reese; great-grandson Daniel Edgemon; brothers Walter Martin and Floyd Martin; and sister Florence Watson; son-in-law Leland Reese; sisters-in-law Dorothy Lippert and Florence Gustad; and numerous nieces and nephews.
