Virgil Francis Scholl, age 93, of Hector, formerly of Olivia, died Friday, September 22, 2017, at the Olivia Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. The Rev. Dennis Labat will be the celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday one hour prior to the Mass at the church in Olivia. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bird Island. Virgil Francis Scholl was born on March 24, 1924, in Kingman Township, Renville County to Albert and Elizabeth (Clouse) Scholl. He grew up on a farm north of Olivia and attended country school. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Bleck on June 26, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island. They made their home on a farm in Kingman Township north of Olivia. They lived there until 1960, when they moved to their farm in Melville Township. After a lifetime of farming, Virgil retired in 1988, and they then moved into Olivia. For the past year, Virgil and Dorothy have resided in Hector. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting Billiards, listening and dancing to old time music, and spending winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy of Hector, his two daughters: Joyce (and Tom) Partyka of Vadnais Heights, MN, and Joanne Melton of St. Peter, MN; his grandson Matt Melton of Mankato; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law David Melton, and three brothers and two sisters.
