Ione Plowman, age 96, of Olivia died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at St. Cloud Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial is in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.

Ione Marie Plowman was born September 23, 1921 on the family farm at rural Clara City, MN, to Lambert and Alvina (Sell) DuHoux. She grew up on the farm and attended country school. In her teenage years Ione assisted neighboring families with their household duties. Ione was united in marriage to John Plowman in South Dakota and they were blessed with four children. They made their home at first in Maynard and then moved to Olivia in 1960. Besides being a homemaker she had worked as a waitress at the Sheep Shedde for many years. She was a faithful member of Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church where she participated in bible study and her Circle. Ione loved shopping, playing cards, dancing, reading, and doing word searches. Her family fondly remembers her enjoyment of cooking and baking, especially making cookies and breads. Ione was an avid sports fan and liked following the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. Ione also looked forward to having company over to visit and with her phenomenal memory she could connect many details and relationships throughout the generations.

Ione is survived by her two daughters: Nancy (and Larry) Jacobs of Olivia and Rebecca (and Kent) Gustafson of Vero Beach, FL; her son-in-law Jay Thorkelson of Cottonwood, AZ; her daughter-in-law Bonnie Plowman of Savage; her nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; her sister Donna Lilleberg of Benson; and her brother Donald (and Rose) DuHoux of Benson.  Ione was preceded in death by her husband; her son Duane Plowman; her daughter Nola Thorkelson; her son-in-law Robert Vogt; her two brothers and three sisters.

Blessed Be Her Memory
