Woody Leindecker


Dohn H. “Woody” Leindecker, age 83, of Olivia died at his home under the care of Renville County Hospice on Friday, January 25, 2019.  A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia with Rev. Yong Ok Son officiating. Burial will be in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation for Woody will be Wednesday February 6th from 4-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.

Dohn H. “Woody” Leindecker was born March 9, 1935 in Willmar, MN, to Hardy and Gladys (Smith) Leindecker. He grew up in Bird Island and graduated from Bird Island High School. After graduation he attended Dunwoody Institute to study printing and typesetting. Woody married Kay Ellis on June 23, 1956 in Olivia. They made their home in Waconia where he worked at the newspaper and their first three daughters were born there. Woody and Kay moved back to Olivia and here their other two daughters and son were born. Woody worked for the West Central Tribune in Willmar for 25 years and during this period he worked one day a week at the Buffalo Lake News. He also had his own printing press in his basement which was known as Woody’s Quick Print. Woody finished his long career owning and operating H&L Printing Services in Olivia. Woody was very civic minded and had been a member of the Waconia Jaycees, the Olivia Lions Club, the Masonic Temple, the Zuhrah Shriners and he enjoyed coaching women’s softball in Olivia. He loved his fishing trips and his breakfast dates with buddies from high school who remained his dearest friends. He also enjoyed trips to Yellowstone, going on Rustad bus tours, playing ping pong and golfing. Woody really loved spending time with his family, especially watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as watching any activity they were involved in.

Woody is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay Leindecker, of Olivia; his children: Jo (and Dale) Morman of Anchorage, AK, Sue (and Gary) Van Eps of Willmar, Pam Leindecker (and Bill Lundberg) of Andover, Barb (and Scott) Squibb of Bird Island, Paul (and Beth) Leindecker of Woodbury, and Lisa (and Joseph) Ryan of Olivia; his 10 grandchildren: Brett Morman, Josh (and Kelsey) Leindecker, Claire Lundberg, John Lundberg, Grant Leindecker, Brock Leindecker, Regan Leindecker, Jack Ryan, Luke Ryan, and Kate Ryan; his five great-grandchildren: Heavyn, Ashlyn, Ella, Maddie, and Caylee; and his sister Ruth (and Gus) Nigro of Allentown, PA; and Kay’s family: Gordy and Judy Ellis, Joe Strama and many nieces and nephews. Woody was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Larry Ellis and sisters-in-law Laverne Ellis and Judy Strama.
