Isabella "Izzy" Estum

Isabella “Izzy” Elisabeth Estum, age 88, of Renville died Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville.  The Rev. Joseph Steinbeisser will be the celebrant.  Burial will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville.  Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the Mass at the church in Renville. 

Isabella “Izzy” Elisabeth Estum was born on August 14, 1930, near Summit, South Dakota to Frank and Eleanora C. (Heininger) Buittner.  Izzy and her family lived on a ranch near Summit and she attended country school through the 8th grade.  She later moved to the twin cities and Izzy worked as a seamstress.  It was during this time she met her husband to be Kenneth Estum, they were later married on May 25, 1956, in Watertown, SD.  They made their home in Missouri Valley, Iowa and there they raised their family.  They also owned and operated the Sunnyside Café in Missouri Valley until their retirement in 1999.  They then moved to Renville and assisted their son Bart with his café.  Izzy was well known for her homemade chicken noodle soup, chili, and ranch dressing.  She was a hard worker and enjoyed her life at the restaurant.  When not at the café, Izzy enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren who were everything to her.

Survivors include her children:  Anita (and Mark) Grabow of Renville, Bart of Renville, and Annette James of Granville, Iowa; her 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; her brother Arthur of Watertown, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, her grandson Jarrod, her son-in-law Doug, and three brothers and three sisters.
