Josephine Vinar, age 102, of Olivia died Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services are Friday, May 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Michael Kuschel officiating. Burial is in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, May 2nd from 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues Friday for one hour prior to the funeral.
Josephine M. Vinar was born December 17, 1916, near Blomkest, Kandiyohi County, MN to Frank and Milada (Matejka) Malecek. She attended country school at Rosellian District #64 and graduated from Olivia High School in 1935. She attended Normal Teachers Training and then taught country school for four years. Josie married Raymond R. Vinar on July 23, 1938 at Lake Lillian, MN. They made their home in various communities and moved to Olivia in 1959. Besides being a homemaker in later years she was employed as a laundry aid at the Renville County Hospital. Josie was a faithful member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia and the Ladies Aid. She had enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, baking, word search puzzles, playing cards and games. Josie also enjoyed traveling, old time music, and dancing to waltz and polka. Josie’s family fondly remembers her gift of crocheting afghans for Hospice, Veterans, church missions, and her family as well as her love of family get togethers. Josie has resided at the RenVilla Nursing Home since October 2018.
Josie is survived by her children: Mary Jo (Ken) Vollmer of Lamberton, Robert (Mary) Vinar of Willmar, Kenneth (Elena) Vinar of New Market, MD, Charles (Judi) Vinar of Annandale, Darlene (Steve) Clarken of North Mankato, Donna Vinar of St. Peter, and Judith Jensen of Overland Park, KS; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; her sister Lucy Herman of Pocohantas, IA, and sister-in-law Florence Malecek of Renville; and many nieces and nephews. Josie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray in 1996; son-in-law Greg Jensen; granddaughter Melanie; great-granddaughter Brianna; sister: Cecelia Kabriel; brothers: Frank (Laurentina) Malecek, Charles (Selma) Malecek, James Malecek, and Edward (Louise) Malecek.
