Norene Clancy, age 85, of Bird Island, MN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, May 22nd at 1:15 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Visitation is Monday, May 21st from 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia. Visitation continues Tuesday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Norene Elnora Clancy was born October 28, 1932 in Hector, MN, to Herman and Rose (Degner) Ehlers. She graduated from Hector High School in 1950 and furthered her education with clerical and computer classes. Norene married Vincent Peter Clancy on September 12, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island and they were blessed with four children. They lived and farmed at rural Bird Island for a few years and then moved into town. They owned and operated together Norvin’s Café in Bird Island for several years. After this Norene was employed for 13 years at the ASC Office in Olivia as a price support clerk and later worked for 18 years as a bookkeeper at BOLD High School, retiring in 1995. She was active in her community and church and was a member of the Catholic Aid, VFW, DAV, Legion Auxiliary #430, and with Pheasants Forever. Norene had liked cooking and baking and made delicious rhubarb torte, soups, and chili. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, and looked forward to trips to Hawaii, Arizona, California, and Montana. Norene also loved caring for the elderly and cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
Norene is survived by her children: Michael Clancy of St. Cloud, Colleen (and Keith) Ness of Glendale AZ, and Carmen Schmoll of St. Cloud; her daughter-in-law Diane Clancy of Park City, MT; her eleven grandchildren: Ryan Clancy, Melissa Clancy, Skylar Clancy, Sean Clancy, Eamon Clancy, Kyla Clancy, Liam Clancy, Elliott Ness, Dustin Ness, Casey Schmoll, and Katie Schmoll; her eight great-grandchildren: Alissa, Tristan, Isabelle, Patrick, Shelby, Brandon, Hailey, and Kylie; her sister Roseyln Nolan of VA; her sister-in-law Kathy Ehlers; and many nieces and nephews. Norene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vincent Clancy; her son Patrick Clancy; her four sisters: Ione Dahlen, Geraldine Farmer, Marion Palmer, and Darlene Mahlum; and her brother LeRoy Ehlers.
