Rodney Ruud, age 94, of Olivia and formerly of Danube died Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Olivia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Olivia. Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville with Pastor Keith Mercer officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Danube. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Rodney Glenn Ruud was born November 5, 1923 in Fairfax, MN, to Rudolph and Mabel (Boyum) Ruud. He attended Fairfax Public Schools. Rod worked in a grocery store and then drove truck before working for REA in Danube for 35 years. Rodney married Ruth Thiem on February 18, 1947 in Fairfax. They lived in Fairfax before moving to Danube in 1953, and in 2011 they moved to Fairview Place in Olivia. Rod liked to play baseball in his younger years. He was also an avid reader of the newspaper, was a fan of auto racing especially NASCAR, and continued to follow baseball throughout the years.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife Ruth (Thiem) Ruud of Olivia; daughter Elaine (Ruud) Nyman of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren Tom Nyman of Saginaw, Michigan, and Laurie (Nyman) Bell of Farmington; his great grandchildren Olivia and Alex Bell; and many nieces and nephews. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marcie Manderfeld; brother Gene Ruud; son-in-law Chuck Nyman; and his grandson-in-law Steve Bell.
