Ted Visser, age 81, of Olivia died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Olivia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. Joe Steinbeisser as celebrant. Private family burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service Olivia, MN.
Theodore “Ted” Ernest Visser, Jr. was born on August 31, 1936, in Olivia, the son of Theodore Sr. and Vera (Chadsey) Visser. Ted was raised on the family farm, attended St. Aloysius Grade School, and graduated from Olivia High School in 1954. He enlisted in the Army National Guard when he was a Senior in High School and was honorably discharged in 1957. On November 26, 1955, Ted was united in marriage to Shirley M. Kern at St. Aloysius Parish House. Ted and Shirley were able to share in 62 years of marriage. They were blessed with five children.Ted farmed for 35 years, 25 of those years he and Shirley lived on the family farm. In 1984, they moved into town. After his farming career, Ted began working in auto sales and did this for 15+ years.Ted was a member of St. Aloysius all his life and was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 50 years. He also belonged to the Olivia American Legion and the Olivia Golf Club. Earlier in life, Ted enjoyed bowling, fishing, and going to Canada with friends. Later in life, he enjoyed golfing, casino trips, car auctions, being with family, and playing cards with friends. He was an “Early Bird” in his group of friends and loved joking around and having a good laugh.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Olivia, children, Kim (David) Scott of Paynesville, Ted S. (Mary) of Sarasota, FL, Randy (special friend, Brenda) of Olivia, Dale (Tana) of Lindenhurst, IL, and Vickie (Steve) Holzer of Hammond, WI, 13 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 12 step-great grandchildren, sisters, Iona (Ken) Tegner of Hector and Vera Ann Prodoehl of Faribault. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, 3 nephews, and daughter-in-law, Joanne.
