Obituary of Alice Herrman

Alice Marie Herrman of Olivia, formerly of Renville, passed away peacefully at her home in Olivia on September 22, 2018, at the age of 93 years.  Her celebration of life service will be held Saturday September 29, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Renville. Visitation will begin at 10am with service to follow at 11:00am all at the church in Renville.  The Rev. Christa Forsythe will officiate.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Renville.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Alice Marie Herrman was born in rural Willmar, Minnesota on August 4, 1925, the 4th child of Albin and Amy (Johnson) Freeberg.  She attended country school through the 8th grade. She was married to Herbert Herrman on the family farm in Whitefield Township and they resided on the Herrman family farm in Crooks Township near Renville, she later in 2014, moved to her home in Olivia.  Herbert died on July 24, 1994.  She was employed as a cook at the Renville schools and farming partner with her husband.

She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, talented seamstress, crafter and cook.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life and she especially enjoyed watching them show livestock at shows and following their school and sport activities.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean and husband Chuck Stranberg of Atwater; her grandchildren and their families: Reid and Stacy Stranberg and their children Aliceson, Rachel, and Justin of Newell, South Dakota; and Kurt and Susie Stranberg and their son Kyle of Maynard, Minnesota; her two sisters, Mae Freeberg of Svea and Alvie Gieseke of Minneapolis, two nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers and two brothers-in- law.
