Myron “Mike” Doering, age 77 of Olivia died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Pastor Matt Hausken officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation for Mike is Wednesday 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Myron Albert “Mike” Doering was born August 19, 1941 at Olivia, MN, to Melbourne and Eva (Stuhr) Doering. He grew up in Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School in 1959 where he had participated in sports, movie club and FFA. Mike served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1965. He married Sandra Hoff on May 7, 1966 and they made their home in Minneapolis before moving to Olivia in 1971. Mike had been employed in construction during the building of the Southern MN Beet Sugar Coop, and then worked at Elk River Concrete, the alfalfa plant in Bird Island, and also at Ervin and Sons Well Co. After this Mike was employed for many years at Contel Telephone Co, later know as GTE, where he did installation work. Mike retired when he was 59 but continued to do part time seasonal work at Co-op Country Farmers Elevator. Mike enjoyed nature and being outside whether he was fishing, hunting, or taking his daily drive around town or at beautiful the river bottom area. He also enjoyed watching Western movies, country western music, dancing, and having “coffee time” with his buddies. Mike was a very quiet man and took great pride over the years in watching his children grow up.
Mike is survived by his wife Sandy Doering of Olivia; his three children: Michael Doering of Alexandria, Shelly (and Bill) Ervin of Olivia, and Melissa (and Adam) Honzay of Olivia; his four grandchildren: Leila Doering of Izmir, Turkey, Jasmine (and Chase) Miller of Travis Air Force Base, CA, Kain (and Amy) Ervin of Olivia, and Brock Ervin of Olivia; his sister Patricia Doering of Fort Pierce, FL; and his brother Dan (and Dee) Doering of Sturgeon Lake. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Melbourne and Eva Doering.
