Janet Jean Bratsch was born on November 3, 1930, in Willmar, Minnesota to Glenn and Annie (Swenson) Alcox.  Janet was the oldest of four children and she and her family lived in a number of different areas while she was growing up.  Janet was united in marriage to Orvel Bratsch on April 11, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville.  Even though they thought they would never have any children, they were blessed with four.  Janet and Orvel farmed south of Renville for many years, and later in 1994, they built their home in Renville.  Tragedy struck the family when they lost their oldest son in a car accident, Ronnie was only 17.  Janet was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in her early 40’s, but, Janet and Orvel’s strong faith saw them through these difficult times.  Janet had a real love for music and played the clarinet in school, and loved singing in the church choir. She taught herself to sew, and made clothes for her family.  She also taught herself to decorate cakes, and made many beautiful wedding, birthday, and graduation cakes.  Orvel and Janet loved to spend time camping at Kandiyohi Lake, and took many trips with their lifelong friends, Melvin and Donna Treichler.  Janet loved to dance, she taught Orvel to dance, and together they taught dance classes through community education.  They were blessed with nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  They were very involved in their children’s grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s lives.

Survivors include her daughter and sons:  Joann (and Robert) Cramer of Burnsville, Dick (and Liz) Bratsch of Boyd,  and Larry (and Sherry) Bratsch of New London; her grandchildren:  Kelly Cramer, Katie (Madrone) Kubovcik, Rob (and Shelley) Cramer, Jon Beck (and special friend Ellis Burnheart), Amy Dalba (and special friend Kyle Sherod), Sara Wold, Katherine Bratsch, Marcus (and Kristen) Bratsch, and Allison Bratsch;  11 great grandchildren; her sister Vicki (and Larry) Mertens; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orvel, her son Ronald, and her siblings: John Alcox, Mary Lou Hildebrandt, Betty Alcox, and Rawleigh Alcox.

Blessed Be Her Memory
