Donald Lee Mahlum, Sr., age 56, of Olivia, died Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the Wabasso Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. The Rev. Dale Svendsen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church in Sacred Heart. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Donald Lee Mahlum, Sr. was born on October 10, 1962, in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Gerald and JoAnn (Frank) Mahlum. He grew up in Sacred Heart and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1981. Don was united in marriage to Judy Johnson in 1987. He worked at Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Co-op for many years. He later worked as a caretaker at Tall Oaks Apartments in Olivia. Don enjoyed fishing and camping, and collecting anything with eagles on it. He was a very kind and caring person and was always willing to help others.
Survivors include his son and daughter: Donald Lee, Jr. of Maynard, and Rachell (and John) Minsaas of Kandiyohi; his five grandchildren: Tyler, Joshua, Matthew, Hailey, and Jason; his mother JoAnn Mahlum of Renville, his two sisters: LeAnn Davis of Willmar, and LuAnn (and Galen) Negen of Sacred Heart; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
