Wesley Lynn Wulkan was born August 14, 1924 on the family farm at Hector, MN, to Lynn and Josephine (Wolff) Wulkan. He attended country school and graduated from Hector High School where he was on the football team. Wes was a lifelong farmer and was blessed to live on the homestead his entire life. In addition to growing crops, he was a dairy farmer until retiring in 1989. Wes was also a self taught carpenter and electrician and was able to build and maintain many of the structures on the family farm. Wes married Elaine Pederson on August 19, 1946, and they had one daughter and one son. Wes and Elaine loved to travel and take vacations to various locations and enjoyed occasional adventures such as hot air balloon rides. Some of their travels were to learn new farming methods and one such trip even took them to New Zealand. Wes was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting big game and family gatherings at the cabin on Diamond Lake. Wes had served on the Hector Elevator Board for many years. He was a member of the Elim Moravian Church until it closed in 1966 and then joined the Hector United Methodist Church. Music was an important element of his life as he loved organ music, playing the harmonica and whiz bang kazoo, and singing with Elaine in the church choir for many years.
Wes is survived by his children: Clarice (and Edward) Renoux of Silverton, CO, and Brad (and Wendy) Wulkan of Hector; his five grandchildren: Abbie Renoux, Kaylee (and T.J.) Setlick, Kevin (and Karen) Wulkan, Kimberly (and Chad) Bergstrom, and Andrew Lenz; his 10 great-grandchildren: Tayler (and Taylor) Ryberg, Kevin Ryberg, Belle Ryberg, Bradlee Wulkan, Madalynn Wulkan, Alexis Bergstrom, August Bergstrom, Ashten Bergstrom, Ellaina Bergstrom, and Gabriel Bergstrom; his five great-great-grandchildren; and his sister Arlene (and Einar) Swanson. Wes was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Wulkan; his brother Lester Wulkan; and his sister Geneva Testa.
