Herma Dorothy Margaret Hoffman, age 97, of Renville, died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Rice Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville. The Rev. Rick Tuttle will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and will continue on Friday one hour prior to the services all at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Herma was born on August 3, 1921, near Sanborn, MN, in Charleston Township, Redwood County to Reinhold Herman and Selma Lucie (Sprink) Trapp. As a young child she and her family lived in the Sanborn area for a short time prior to moving to the Bird Island area. They lived there for a short time and then moved to a farm north of Danube. Just before Herma reached school age she moved to Lake Benton and lived with her Sprink grandparents so she could go to school there. After first grade, Herma moved back to her parent’s home and attended country school. She later graduated from Danube High School in 1939, and then continued her education at St. Cloud Teacher School. Herma was united in marriage to Vernon Hoffman on May 31, 1942, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church north of Danube. They made their home on the Hoffman farm between Danube and Renville. Herma taught school at District 75 country school for two years before starting their family. Herma moved into Renville in 1985, and lived in her own home until moving to East Ridge Court in 2015. In 2018, she moved into the RenVilla and has resided there since. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and she enjoyed baking, gardening, and embroidering.
She is survived by her 6 children: Gary (and Sandie) of Montreal, Quebec, her son-in-law, Ronald Hummel of Lakefield, MN, Larry (and LaVonne) of Auburndale, FL, Myron (and Kelly) of Danube, Connie Johnson (Bruce Jeremiason significant other) of Minneota, MN, Richard of Willmar, MN, and Barbara (and Todd) Raske of Marshall, MN; her 13 grandchildren: Wade, Ryan, Michelle, Angela, Jon, Brandon, Christopher, Tina, Sara, Mary, Nicole, Candace, and Jordan; 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon in 1983, her daughter Carolyn, and 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
