Roger Weis, age 85, of Bird Island died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. Joe Steinbeisser as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday at the church from 4 - 7 p.m. and continues on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN.
Roger Clarence Weis was born September 4, 1933 at Bird Island, MN, to Clarence and Florentine (Krebsbach) Weis. He grew up in Bird Island and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Roger worked for the Bird Island Coop Creamery as a milk delivery driver, Rural Dehydrators, and Coca Cola in earlier years. He owned and operated Bird Island Lanes for many years. Roger started working for Mobil Oil Corporation in Bird Island in 1965. In 1981, Roger established Weis Oil Company and was still involved in the family business. Roger married Ila Carlson in 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and traveling. Roger was the founding father of the Weis Open golf tournament that has been taking place for over 20 years. He loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lions Club serving as a past president, board member of the Olivia Golf Club, Knights of Columbus and past member of the Bird Island Fire Department and Bird Island City Council.
Roger is survived by his wife Ila Weis of Bird Island; his children: Wayne (and Connie) Weis of Stoughton, WI, Theresa Weis of Hutchinson, Debbie (and Jeff) Beckler of Bird Island, Jeff (and Karen) Weis of Bird Island, and Curt (and Jody) Weis of Bird Island; his 10 grandchildren: Ben (and Jami) Weis, Adam (Chquota) Weis, Josh Weis, Kaitlyn Weis, Sheila (and Chris) Feldman, Jenna (and Carl) Skoglund, Sara (and Josh) Zupfer, Ethan Weis, Peyton Weis, and Brenna Weis; his six great-grandchildren: Asia Weis, Griffin Feldman, Cambelle Feldman, Landon Skoglund, Lucy Skoglund, and Jackson Skoglund; his siblings: Dave (and Mary) Weis of Brooklyn Park, Arlene Dooner of Bird Island, John (and Ann) Weis of Elk Grove, CA, Toots (and Dick) Ewert of Hutchinson, Nan (and Marty) Barnes of Hutchinson, and Paul (and Karla) Weis of Springfield, MO. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law Don Dooner and sister in law Carolyn Weis.
