Roger Beckler, age 78, of Hector died Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, in Buffalo Lake, MN. There will be a private family service and burial. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia, MN.
Roger David Beckler was born February 4, 1941 at Willmar, MN, to Thomas and Theresa (Sester) Beckler. He grew up on the family farm one mile south of Bird Island. Roger attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Bird Island High School. After this he farmed with his dad for awhile and then was employed doing steel construction work for two years. After this Roger moved to the Twin Cities and worked for Owens Companies. Roger married Carol Ann Kalberg of Hector on May 27, 1967 at First Lutheran Church in Hector and they were blessed with their daughter Shelley in 1969. In the Fall of 1969 the family moved back to Hector where he was employed as an automotive mechanic until his retirement in 2009. Throughout the years he had enjoyed working on old cars and pickups as well as restoring cars from the ground up. Roger also enjoyed street rods and was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association for many years. In later years he also enjoyed walking his dog and riding his moped around town.
Roger is survived by his wife Carol Ann Beckler of Hector; his daughter Shelley Beckler (and special friend Joe Gregonis) of Eagan; his dog Chloe; his brother Ed (and Nettie) Beckler of Bloomington; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe and Eileen VanWie of Las Cruces, NM; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Donald Beckler, William Beckler, Gordy Beckler, Darlene Chan, Marlene Woelfel, and Bernice Feldman.
