Obituary of Marion Peterson
Marion L. Peterson, age 97, of Renville, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Renville. The Rev. Jane Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in Sacred Heart. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the services all at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Marion L. Peterson was born on September 23, 1921, in Emmett Township, in Renville County to John and Meta (Grabow) Brummer. As a child she attended District 37 country school and later graduated from Renville High School. She was united in marriage to Leonard Monroe Peterson on February 19, 1944, in Renville. Following their marriage, they lived on the Peterson family farm and raised their five children. Along with helping on the farm, Marion also worked part-time at Emerson’s Furniture Store, Pike’s Department Store, and at the Renville Co-op Creamery. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Renville and was active in many church groups and events. These included quilting, church dinners, ladies aid, and served as co-treasurer with Leonard. She was a 4-H Leader, a member of the Sons of Norway, and taught Hardanger for many years. Marion and Leonard were also members of a Birthday/Card Club for many years. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her family. She loved to play cards, read, color, play Bingo, embroider, and do genealogy work.
She is survived by her daughters and son: Norma (and Lee) Raske of Marshall, Lorene (and Jim) Roste of Roseville, Jim (and Pam) Peterson of Renville, Jane (and Haakon) Oksnevad of Blaine, and Judy Osbon (and Chuck Heffernan) of Blaine; her 10 grandchildren: Hans (and Laurie) Raske, Anna (and Eric) Runestad, Scott Roste, Steven (and Kayla) Roste, Bjorn (and Laura) Oksnevad, Erik (and Amy Jo) Oksnevad, Tor (and Anna) Oksnevad, Miranda (and Kevin) Prahl, Richard Smith and Brian Smith; her great grandchildren: Tom, Paige, and Lucas Raske, Ella and Leo Runestad, Rane Roste, Sonja and Elise Oksnevad, Odin and Ozzie Oksnevad, Leif Oksnevad, and Emmett Prahl; her brother and sister: Norman (and Marilyn) Brummer of Minnetonka, and Harriet (Norman) Raske of Renville; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, and her son-in-law Ronald “Ozzie” Osbon.
