John Mathews, age 71, of Hector, MN, my beloved husband passed away at Abbott Northwestern Hospital on Saturday, April 13, 2019. A private family ceremony will be held.
John Emerson Mathews was born March 15, 1948 to John and Delores Mathews in Greensburg, IN. John and his parents moved to Florida in 1959. He graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, FL in 1967. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968, was stationed in Korea, and received an honorable discharge in 1971. He began his career by following his father’s footsteps working his way up to a journeyman electrician and working for several electrical companies in and around the state of Florida. John married Brenda Antonsen on February 23, 1973. They resided in Florida for 42 years and then moved to Hector, MN in December of 2015. John had enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, and being a very patient man as well as mechanically inclined he could repair almost anything. He also had enjoyed time spent gardening, especially raising cherry tomatoes, and sharing his bounty with family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Brenda Mathews of Hector; mother-in-law Phyllis Antonsen of Buffalo Lake; brother-in-law Bruce (and Pam) Antonsen of Buffalo Lake; sister-in-law Debra (and Michael) Johnson of Apple Valley; and four nephews: Joshua, Tyler, and Brandon Antonsen and Drew Johnson. John was preceded in death by his parents.
