Ione Corella Wordes, age 91, of Renville died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Renville. The Rev. Keith Mercer will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Ione Corella Wordes was born on March 8, 1928, in rural Sacred Heart to Herman and Cora (Olson) Sundquist. She was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. She attended District 11 Country School south of Sacred Heart and later graduated from Renville High School in 1946. Ione was united in marriage to Delton Wordes on July 6, 1952, in Renville. They farmed together south of Renville. Ione was a member of Renville United Methodist Church and was active with many activities including helping with the church ham dinner. She enjoyed baking and making homemade bread, gardening and growing flowers, taking care of her chickens and her cats, reading, sewing, and quilting. Ione was a typical farm wife who enjoyed taking care of her home and her family.
Survivors include her sons and their spouses: Brian (and Gayle) of Sacred Heart, David (and Lenae) of Renville; her grandchildren: Matthew, Mandi (and Travis) Zupfer, Malory (and Derrick) Vortherms, and Rebekka; her sister Pearl Nagel of Boyd, MN; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delton in 2012, her sisters Luella Lahni and Eldora Sundquist, and her brother Harold Sundquist.
