Richard Gordon Phillips, age 89, a long-time resident of Olivia, MN, died on June 23, 2019, while a resident at Brookdale Plymouth, MN. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 29th at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia at 11:00 am with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial will be at the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Home.
Richard (Ace) was born on July 13, 1929, in Willmar, MN, to Guy and Claretta Phillips. He was raised in Bird Island, MN, and graduated from high school in 1947. After high school Ace was employed by Bell Telephone/AT&T, from 1950 to 1953 served in the US Army, and resumed employment with AT&T until his retirement in 1982. On June 9, 1974, Ace married Jackie Boening of Olivia, MN. After retirement they lived in Park Rapids, MN, and later returned to Olivia. Ace and Jackie spent several winters in Apache Junction, AZ. The couple enjoyed ice and shore fishing.
Ace is survived by daughter, Marcia, Prescott, AZ, two granddaughters, two great grandsons, as well as Jackie’s children and their families. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie, granddaughter Faith, grandson Todd, and stepson Peter Boening.
