Gary Polfus, age 53, of Olivia died July 28, 2019 at RC Hospital in Olivia. A gathering of family and friends is Friday, August 2nd from 2-4 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia with a special time for sharing memories at 3:30 p.m. Burial is in the Olivia cemetery. Gary M. Polfus was born December 29, 1965 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Walter Mankowski and Mary (Wildman) Polfus. Gary was adopted by his step-father, Robert Polfus Sr. when he was younger. As a child Gary discovered his talent for music. He could effortlessly play any instrument he tried, but he loved the violin. He moved to Minnesota with his family while in high school. Gary graduated from Orono High School in 1982. Music was a huge part of his life, so he attended Yankton College in South Dakota to study music. He played as a violinist in numerous symphony orchestras all throughout his life, starting as a child. Throughout his adult life he worked as a banker. Along with his passion for music, Gary loved history. His favorite was the history of World War II. Gary’s world revolved around his beloved dog, Athena. They were the best of friends and spent all of their time together.
Gary will be greatly missed by his precious dog, Athena; parents, Robert Polfus Sr. and Mary Polfus; brother, Robert Polfus Jr.; niece, Sara Polfus; and nephew, Gavin Polfus. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mankowski and uncle, John Wildman.
