Donna Scheibel, age 82, of Bird Island, MN, died Wednesday August 14, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation for Donna is Friday, August 23rd from 5-8 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and will continue Saturday at the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m.
Donna Jean Scheibel was born June 17, 1937 in Holloway, MN to Delbert and Mary (Bares) Smith. When she was young the family moved to Morton. Donna graduated from Morton High School where she had been crowned the homecoming queen. After this she was employed in Minneapolis as a secretary. On September 6, 1958 Donna was united in marriage to Henry Scheibel at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton, MN and they were blessed with six children. Donna was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the CCW, and devoted to saying the rosary. Donna was a member of her Schnozzle Club since March of 1959, Renville County Hospital Auxiliary, 4-H leader, Red Hat Society where she was the chosen as the Queen Mother, University Extension Homemakers Club, and had volunteered at the local Food Shelf. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, doing oil and acrylic painting, crafts, flower gardening, baking, and playing cards. Donna and Henry were fortunate to travel to all 50 states and 14 foreign countries. They also spent the past 20 years as snowbirds at Tip O’Texas RV Resort in Pharr, Texas, where she enjoyed visiting and doing crafts. Donna was a wonderful homemaker and loved making the holidays a special place in her home for her family.
Donna is survived by her husband, Henry Scheibel of Bird Island; six children: Douglas (Vickie) Scheibel of Olivia, David (Charlene) Scheibel of Bird Island; Susan (Mark) Smith of Pulaski, WI, Jean (Mike) Duane of Olivia; Lori Ann (Al) Clark of Cannon Falls, and Debra Scheibel of Denver, CO; grandchildren: Naomi (Jason) Hyerdall, Melanie (Tyler) Bettin, Lindsey Scheibel, John Scheibel, Paul Scheibel, Joseph Scheibel, Kristina (Henrik) Rasmussen, Kimberly (Adam) Dierks, Andrew (Daiane) Seehusen, Ryan Bruns, Sara Duane, Kyle Duane, and Cassie Clark; great-grandchildren: Samantha Sikora, Daviny Scheibel, Annelise Rasmussen, Marie Rasmussen, Karoline Rasmussen, Blake Dierks, and Emma Dierks; two brothers, Willis Smith and Denny (Pat) Smith; sister, Sharon Abrahamson, and brother-in-law, Robert Scheibel. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, TJ Scheibel; sister, Shirley Marks; sister-in-law, Doris Smith; two brothers-in-law, Don Marks and Jerry Abrahamson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Jack Tersteeg; and nephews, Mike Smith, Ronald Smith, Jim Marks, and Bob Marks.
