Obituary of Wilbur Standfuss
Wilbur William Standfuss, age 81, of Renville, died Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville. The Rev. Michael Kuschel will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the services all at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Wilbur William Standfuss was born on March 14, 1938, in Emmett Township to William and Hulda (Petzke) Standfuss. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Danube High School, graduating in 1956. Following high school, he rented some land and began farming. He was united in marriage to Betty Smith on September 14, 1958, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Danube. They made their home on their farm south of Renville and lived there until moving into town in 2003. Wilbur served as the mayor for the City of Renville for two years. He also was church president and church council member at St. John’s. He was also a member of the West Central Ridge Tillers Association. He enjoyed woodworking and fixing things, watching Mary, his grandsons, and great grandchildren’s sporting and school activities. He was also known for the large geraniums that he grew each summer.
He is survived by his wife Betty, his daughter Laura (and Steve) Haen of Renville, his two grandson: Aaron (and Becky) Haen of Renville, Ryan (and Susie) Haen of Richfield; and his two great grandchildren Morgan and Ethan Haen; his sister Marjorie Lenz, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Mary, his brother and sister-in-law Duane and Marcella Standfuss and his brother-in-law Orville Lenz.
