Rickie Lynn Westby was born on August 18, 1957, at the Granite Falls Hospital to Gilbert and Frances (Roschild) Westby. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville and he also attended Sunday school there. Rickie attended school in every town along Highway 212, from Sacred Heart to Hector until the age of 21. He loved his bus drivers. In 1980, at the age of 23, he moved from the Westby farm he loved into the new RCCR in Bird Island. He worked at DAC in Olivia where he made many life-long friends. In 1987, he moved to Willmar where he worked many different jobs in the area. During this time, he met so many different people, that no matter where he went, we would hear “Hi Rickie”, this even happened at the Norsk Hostfest in Minot, ND. He had so many wonderful friends, co-workers, staff, and housemates over the years. Rickie was a confirmed member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Rickie loved his church, singing, Jesus Cares Group, Twins and Stingers baseball games, car races, monster truck events, matchbox cars, NASCAR on television, and trips all over the US thanks to his great staff and family. Rickie’s life was so complete, he was most often happy and full of teasing banter with so many.
He is survived by his siblings: Marlene (and Wally) Schroer, Norman (and Jan) Westby, and Marshal Westby; his nieces and nephews: Paul (and Lisa) Schroer, Cindy (and Rod) Bruce, Julie (and Julian) Leopold, Jesse (and Amanda) Westby, Phillip (and Kari) Westby, Dannie Marie (and Ted) Bruemmer, Katrina (and Joe) Westby, Tom Post, Bonnie Jones, and Jill Johnson; his great nieces and nephews: Cassie (and David), Adam, Cullen, Kallie, Kenzie, Kyle, Addy June, Joey, Alexa, Thomas, and Jameson; Aunt Marie Costin, Uncle Maynard Roschild, and many beloved cousins, friends, and staff who made life fun for Rickie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law Wendy Westby, and beloved family, staff, and friends.
Rickie was God’s gift to all of us, God bless our memories.
