Obituary of Terri Berntson

Theresa “Terri” Berntson, age 56, of Olivia, MN and formerly Alexandria, died on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Olivia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date, more details to follow. Arrangements by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN.

Theresa Ann Berntson was born on July 21, 1964 in Montevideo, MN to Denny and Ann (Costello) Hanson. When Terri was in high school, she ran track and cross country. She also spent a lot of time working for her dad at the Sheep Shedde. Terri graduated from Olivia High School in 1983. In 1984, Terri was married to Mike Bauman and together they had their son Chris. In 1990, she married Lester Berntson and together they had their daughter Katie. She started working with the first computers while at McLeod County Human Services and later Aflac Insurance. Terri moved to the Alexandria/Glenwood area and worked various retail jobs. Terri had a passion for being outdoors. She loved going to National and County Parks hiking and playing Frisbee. She instilled a love for being outdoors in both of her children. Movie nights with Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes were treasured times between her, Chris, and Katie. Her Sunday mornings were spent with a cup of coffee and a good crossword puzzle. Working in her garden growing fruits and vegetables was a favorite hobby of hers. She liked playing board games and cards; especially Backgammon, Cribbage, and Yahtzee.

Terri is survived by her children, Chris (Ashley) Bauman of Montevideo and Katie (Charlie) Willert of Hector; her grandchildren: John, Jaydin, James, and Jersey Willert; her father, Denny Hanson; her brother, Mike Hanson; step-siblings: Meghan, Erin, Jackie, Bill, and Sean Casey; and her three nieces: Bri, Aly, and Grace Hanson. Terri was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Hanson; step-mother, Barbara Hanson; her siblings, Jennifer Hanson and Paul Hanson; and her uncle, Tony Costello.
