Irvin Palmer Moen was born on September 25, 1942 in Grand Rapids, MN to Palmer and Irma (Wertherell) Moen. To escape the weather in Minnesota, his family moved to the Sacramento, CA area where they lived until the summer before Irv’s ninth grade year of school. They moved to Brooten, MN where he graduated in 1961. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and proudly served his country in Vietnam on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. Upon his discharge, he founded and operated Chemical Technology in the Twin Cities. He then moved to Willmar to raise a family and began working in the real estate industry; he started Century 21 and later Remax Realty serving Willmar, Olivia, and Spicer areas. Getting back to his farm kid roots, Irv enjoyed working in the Agriculture Industry following his career being a realtor. Irv was united in marriage to Christina Schlegel on August 23, 2000 at the Green Lake Chapel in Spicer. They made their home on a ranch south of Atwater on Lake Elizabeth. Irv had a love of horses and dogs. Together Irv and Tina raised German Shepherd dogs and helped to re-home many German Shepherd and Black Labrador rescues. Irv enjoyed taking the boat out to go fishing and watching old western movies brought him much joy. Irv had a passion for vegetable gardening. He was always willing to help in the kitchen and liked to cook; his favorite recipes were stir fry with vegetables from his garden and making pot roasts.
Irv is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Tina; his children, Jenny (Matt) Wiens and their children Jakob and Mallory and Josh (Jenn) Moen and their children Sienna and Zoe; his step-children, Amy Uken and her children Jenna (Jake) Rooda and Jacob Uken and Brandon (Chelsie) Kopacek and their son Robert with one more on the way; and his siblings: Bob Moen, Barbara Wright, Patricia Sly, and Christine McKinley.
