Karl Quade, age 74, of Renville, MN died on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Meadows on Main Assisted Living in Renville. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Renville.
Karl David Quade was born on July 15, 1947 to Marland and Martha (Koester) Quade in Fairmont, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Karl graduated from Fairmont High School in 1965. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota in Morris where he received his Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. He went on to get his Master’s degree while studying in the Philippines and took various classes at the University of Oregon once he moved there. Karl was a member of the U.S. Navy; he spent most of his active duty in Hawaii and spent summers there while in the reserves. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Reserves, and volunteered his time teaching classes for the Coast Guard. Karl enjoyed taking trips on his sailboat on the Columbia River with friends from the Rose City Yacht Club. He also took many trips snow skiing in the mountains in Oregon and out of state; he even skied in the Alps in Europe. Karl was an avid cribbage player and loved biking in the hills surrounding Portland. Volunteering his time at the Nature Park in Beaverton, OR and planting flowers throughout the parks in Portland brought him much joy. He spent 40 years in Portland, Oregon before moving to Minnesota to be near family. Karl has lived at Meadows on Main Assisted Living for the past 2 years.
Karl is survived by his sister, Martha “Marty” (David) Wilson of Renville, MN; sister-in-law, Christel Quade of Somerset, KY; nephew, Richard (Robin) Quade; nieces, Carol (TJ) Thompson and Sara Wilson; three great-nieces; and one great-great nephew; many cousins; good friend, Cindi Huff; and many other friends. Karl was preceded in death by his father and mother; his grandparents; brother, Paul Quade; niece, Kari Wilson; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
