Lawrence M. Beekman, age 91, of Sacred Heart, died Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the Olivia Hospital surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Renville. The Rev. Anna Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the 11:00 a.m. service at the church.
Lawrence M. Beekman was born on June 4, 1930, on the family farm in Ericson Township, Renville County to Louis and Dena (Raske) Beekman. He was baptized and later confirmed at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. At the age of two, his mother died and his father Louis raised Lawrence and his brother Dick. He attended Ericson Country School and later graduated from Renville High School in 1948. Lawrence served his country in the United States Army in Germany from May of 1953 until May of 1955. Following his service, Lawrence returned to the family farm and continued his lifelong career of farming. He was united in marriage to Alice Pagel on December 13, 1958, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Lawrence and Alice made their home on the family farm in Ericson Township where they farmed and raised livestock. Lawrence held various other jobs during that time as well. He was a lifelong member and active in his church Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed bird watching, attending his children and grandchildren’s events, and sitting quietly outside enjoying the sights.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice; his children and their spouses: Kevin (JoAnne) Beekman, Roger (Sara) Beekman, Timothy (Carol) Beekman, Lenae (Dave) Wordes, and Audra (Darwin) Johnson; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with one on the way, his sister-in-law Wilma Beekman, many nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Dick and Edward.
