Obituary of Kenny Abbas

Kenneth A. Abbas, age 78, of Renville, died Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Renville.  The Rev. Dan Bowman will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville.  Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the services all at the church in Renville.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Kenneth A. Abbas was born on April 2, 1943, on the family farm in Flora Township, Renville County to Aeilt “Kelly” and Louise Eleanor (Miller) Abbas.  He grew up on the family farm and attended country school near his home.  He later graduated from Renville High School in 1961.  Kenny was united in marriage to Mary Kottom on January 26, 1962, at First Lutheran Church in Renville. They lived in an upstairs apartment at Edna Olufson’s for a short time and he farmed with his father for the next year. He then worked with Stub Hanson building First Lutheran Church.  After the church was completed, Kenny went to work for Harlan Johnson for nine years, during this time Harlan built a new house for them to live in.  Kenny then farmed with his brother-in-law Mark Kottom for one year prior to farming on his own for the last 39 years.  Kenny and Mary lived on the Binger farm (with the bats) until moving into their new home they built in 1974.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church, a founding member of Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Co-op, and served on the Co-op Country Elevator Board.

Kenny is survived by his wife Mary, his son and daughter, Scott (and Julie) Abbas of Renville, Sandy (and David) Link of Renville; his  five grandchildren:  Heidi (and Aaron) Hagen, Haley (and Ryan) Rieckman, Corey (and Lauren) Abbas, Alyssa (and Michael) Nelson, and Austin (and Amanda) Link; his great grandchildren: Hunter, Jaxon, Brooks, Noah, Laiken, and Trey; his sister and brothers:  Mavis (and Wayne) Maurice of Danube, Stanley (and Phyllis) Abbas of Sun City, AZ, Paul (and Jolyn) Abbas of Chaska, and Lowell (and Charlette) Abbas of Courtland, MN; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his great grandson Landon, and his brother, Galen and sister, Arlene.
