Walter “Bud” Richard Welsh was born on August 25, 1935 to Walter and Matilda (Prokosch) Welsh in Bird Island. He graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1954. He worked for Trojan Seed and then served in the National Guard returning to work at Trojan Seed when he returned home. Bud then worked for Oak Grove Dairy, delivering and making ice cream. He then delivered milk for his own business ‘Bud’s Oak Grove,’ which he did for 23 years before retiring. Bud was united in marriage to Sylvia Serbus on June 1, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn. He enjoyed being in nature while hunting and fishing. Traveling and spending time camping at Long Lake brought him much joy. He was a craftsman and a jack of all trades; he taught his children how to fix various things and made furniture out of wood for his family. Bud volunteered his time at the food shelf for 20 years and the Bird Island Fire Department; he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a member of the church choir for many years. Bud will be remembered for being a family man with a strong work ethic.
Bud is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Bird Island; his five children: Julie (Joe) Griffith of Bird Island, Kevin (Marcia) Welsh of Spicer, Lori (Doug) Donald of Ventura, CA, Karen Lippert (fiancé Paul Erickson) of Spicer, and Mark (Angela) Welsh of Woodbury; his 14 grandchildren: Tracy, Nicholas, Kayla, Mariah, Noah, Kyle, Bria, Loren, Tonya, Becca, Kelly, Sydney, Hayley, and Hannah; his eight great-grandchildren; his siblings: Jeanette Larson, Charlene Thole, Larry (Sara) Welsh, Ron (Myrna) Welsh, Carol (Johnny) Norris, and Russ (Donna) Welsh; and brother-in-law, Lester Precht. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his grandchild, Brandy Reiniger; his son-in-law, Brad Lippert; his brother, Jim Welsh; his sister, Myrtle Precht; his brothers-in-law, Paul Larson and Ray Thole; and sister-in-law, Adeline Welsh.
